First a reminder that our call for speakers closes on 11:59 PM ET March 14th, 2020. That would be this weekend!
Now onto some more serious matters: COVID-19. We’ve been asked by an increasing number of people if we will be holding SELF due to the coronavirus outbreak, as several major sporting events are already cancelled or being held in empty arenas. In addition, there are confirmed coronavirus cases in the greater Charlotte region including several people who tested positive and were unaware they were positive while transiting through Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. Despite this we do not anticipate any disruption to the SELF 2020 event from COVID-19. A few things to keep in mind:
– COVID-19 is similar in transmission and seriousness to a bad seasonal flu. We expect like the seasonal flu for it to ease up with warmer weather. We expect June in NC to be “very VERY warm”.
– If you are sick by all means STAY HOME! Remember, we have a remote attendee option!
– In the unlikely event COVID-19 is still kicking around by the time SELF happens we’ll make sure to keep stockpiles of disinfectant and hand cleaning supplies and make them readily available throughout the conference venue. The same common sense practices you always do apply to reduce transmission: cover your coughs and sneezes, wash your hands frequently, and always wash your hands before touching your face.
